In 2011, more than 347 poodles participated in the parade and other events during Poodle Day.
The 2012 Poodle Day morning events will take place at The Crossroads shopping village, which is located off Highway 1 and Rio Road in Carmel. Check-in is scheduled from 8:45 a.m. to 9:55 a.m. At 10:00 a.m., Poodle Day’s official bagpiper, Nancy Murray, will lead the parade of poodles, poodle mixes, and their human companions.
Following the parade, there will be a a pet fashion show and product demonstration sponsored by Pet Food Express and other retailers at The Crossroads. The awards ceremony will immediately follow. Winners will be photographed, and the photos will be posted on the Poodle Day website for one year.
After the awards ceremony, dog agility training and canine social club Zoom Room will discuss and do a demonstration on agility training.
Poodle Day will be charging a nominal, non-tax deductible registration fee for morning events, and all net proceeds will benefit NorCal Poodle Rescue. The registration fee will be $20 for one poodle or poodle mix, $30 for two, $40 for three, and $50 for four. Payment is required at the time of online registration.
Parade participants will be grouped according to size, and the marching order will be: toy poodles, small poodle mixes, miniature poodles, standard poodles, and large poodle mixes. Other non-poodle pets may join their families in the parade. The judges will present awards to poodles in each size category; poodles do not have to be in costume to win.
Participants who wish to march as part of an organization or affinity group may do so as long as they comply with Poodle Day’s guidelines.
Poodle Day encourages participants to refer to its terms and conditions for parade rules, award categories and awards, registered participant drawing, and refund policy.
After the morning’s festivities, boxed lunches will be available for purchase from food vendors at The Crossroads, and seating will be provided. Poodle Day’s off-leash play at Carmel Beach begins at 1:30 p.m. For information about beach play as well as optional activities, visit the Afternoon Events page.
